Is Ubaldo Jimenez for Real?

AUTHOR: Nathaniel Stoltz | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

MLB Director’s Note:  While I search for a lead writer for this site, Nathaniel Stoltz has agreed to stop by and publish some Rockies content for us.  If you are wondering who Nathaniel is, he is the lead writer of our San Diego Padres site, Chicken Friars and is also on the staff of our general MLB site Call to the Pen.
Yesterday, Rockies righthander Ubaldo Jimenez threw seven scoreless innings (Granted, it was against Houston).
He now has a 0.99 ERA this season.
Is this for real?
Well, let’s look at this on two levels.
First, the more literal: Is Jimenez likely to post [...]

U-Brass Ball-do Scalps the Braves!

AUTHOR: thebearflag | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Hours after I called the Rockies’ season ho-hum, Ublado Jimenez makes history for Colorado with a no-hit, six walk shutout of over the Braves, the first no-hitter since 2009 when White Sox ace Mark Buehrle blanked Tampa 5-0 in a perfect game.
This is the first no-hitter in the 18-year history of the Colorado Rockies…and probably not the last.
Jimenez was assisted by Dexter Fowler, who made a stretching catch in the seventh, but otherwise earned this gem on his own merit.
Jimenez helped his cause in the fourth with a single to center, driving in Brad Hawpe for an RBI. Later that [...]

Even Steven: Rockies .500 after two weeks…

AUTHOR: thebearflag | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The first two weeks of the Major League Baseball season have been proven to be average for the Colorado Rockies.
At 5-5 and in a three way tie with the Dodgers and DBacks, the Rox are sitting in good position, especially with the San Francisco Giants surging.
Ubaldo Jimenez has been spectacular, which isn’t a surprise to anyone who follows the Rox. Jimenez boasts a 2-0 record, a measly 2.25 ERA, an efficient 12 innings pitched and 13Ks.
The once head case Jorge De La Rosa, on the other hand, has been a tale of two pitchers. His first start of [...]

Rock-it: Jimenez, Gonzalez, Stewart propel win.

AUTHOR: thebearflag | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Colorado Rockies, riding the arm of Ubaldo Jimenez and the red-hot bat of Carlos Gonzalez, continued their winning ways over the Milwaukee Brewers, but it didn’t come without torment.
Gonzalez, 24, made batting in the big leagues look easy. The left fielder scattered four hits in five at bats and scored two runs.
Ian Stewart, on his 25th birthday, belted a homer in the second and drove in Todd Helton in the seventh which should have effectively put away the Brewers.
An impressive Jimenez, hurling pitches in the high nineties all day, allowed one earned run on eight hits, while striking [...]

Not so Rockie Road: Street MRI comes back negative…

AUTHOR: thebearflag | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Huston Street and the Colorado Rockies, gripping over the prospect of a lost season, received encouraging news today on the closer’s shoulder.
No significant damage was revealed from an MRI taken earlier this week. However, Street, 26, is experiencing inflammation in his throwing shoulder and may be riding pine for the start of the season.
“It’s as good a news as we could’ve hoped for,” Street said. “No structural damage…” Street went on you say his immediate plans are to build back up and try to limit additional flare-ups.
After shaky performances in April of 2009, Street was demoted in favor of Manny [...]

Rockies most likely done with off season activity

AUTHOR: David Martin | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Colorado Rockies spent four weeks coming to terms with their arbitration-eligible players, signing players to long-term deals, filling out their bench and pursuing relievers to fill out their bullpen.
Now it looks like they are done.
With a team that has only a few question marks, the Rockies look like they should be in a pretty good position to go out and win enough games to be in the playoff race.  That, of course, is pure speculation for any team in February.  Injuries always factor in and guessing how well a player will play is always tough.
Much of the Rockies success [...]

Rockies ink Mora, have deep bench

AUTHOR: David Martin | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Colorado Rockies got lucky.
On Saturday the Reds won the Orlando Cabrera derby and the Rockies were left to look elsewhere.  They ended up with a far better player than the Reds did.
On Sunday the Rockies countered by signing former Orioles starting third baseman Melvin Mora to a one-year deal.  The signing will do two things.  First, it will ensure that Eric Young Jr. will start the season in Triple-A Colorado Springs.  Second, it puts Clint Barmes’ starting position in jeopardy.
Although the Rockies like Barmes’ defense and love the fact that they probably possess the best double play combo in [...]

Tim Redding Accused of Being a Bad Teammate; Rockies Should Keep Him Away

AUTHOR: David Martin | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

On Thursday the Rockies finalized a Minor League contract with Tim Redding.  On Friday word was spreading that he is a clubhouse cancer.
The Rockies pride themselves on pursuing not just good baseball players, but baseball players who conduct themselves with integrity and have high moral standards.  This fact has led to the team having great clubhouse chemistry and a focused approach.
A day after signing with the Rockies, Redding is doing his best to destroy that reputation.
On Friday it became national news that Redding had gone on a radio show and discussed how former teammate Mike Bacsik had purposely given up [...]

Rockies Adding Depth

AUTHOR: David Martin | IN: Rockies | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Colorado Rockies signed journeyman starting pitcher Tim Redding on Wednesday.  It is clear that the Rockies fan base has grown because of the overall panic that has been associated with signings like this.
Redding was signed to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league camp.  He is by no means going to be this seasons version on Jason Marquis.  He is not going to push Jason Hammel or Jorge De La Rosa out of the rotation.  He is simply being brought in for depth.
Many Rockies fans are scared that the righty, who was accused of being out [...]
