Colorado Rockies reliever Jake McGee was placed on the disabled list with a left knee sprain on April 2. We asked him recently for an update on his status.
Jake McGee was signed by the Colorado Rockies to a three-year, $27 million deal in December of 2017. Following a disappointing 2018 season that saw him post a 6.49 ERA in 61 appearances and witnessed opposing batters hit .285 against him, the 32-year-old southpaw was hoping for a bounceback season in 2019.
However, McGee was able to pitch in just two games and cover 2.1 innings this season before injuring his knee in a contest against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In an exclusive chat recently inside the Colorado clubhouse, McGee told me he is close to finally being able to throw off the mound again.
“Hopefully by the end of this week,” McGee said about the timetable to throw off the mound. “I’ve been throwing and strengthening for a whole week and I’ve been feeling better each day.”
I asked McGee about the frustration level he has been feeling being unavailable to Bud Black as the Rockies bullpen has been taxed heavily in recent games.
“It’s tough to be patient but it’s nice to play catch and really be able to let it go because my arm feels great,” McGee said. “Nothing has been hurting while I’ve been playing catch. The next step is to go on the mound.”
We were with the Rockies in Tampa when McGee first felt the discomfort in the knee. In this article, he told us at the time that he didn’t believe he would be missing a great deal of time. However, tests after the injury told a different story.
McGee has had issues with his left knee in the past but McGee has said that he doesn’t believe this injury has anything to do with past injuries.
At this time, there is no timetable for McGee’s return. However, we will keep you updated with the latest information as it becomes available.
