ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. — Jake McGee had to leave the game in the eighth inning of the Colorado Rockies’ 7-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night with left knee discomfort.

Jake McGee had thrown 19 pitches in his 1.1 innings of work when he said he felt something “a little weird” in his left knee. Colorado Rockies training staff members and manager Bud Black went to the mound to check on the left-handed reliever. After throwing another pitch to test the knee, McGee exited the game as Bryan Shaw took over.

"“I was feeling really good and then that last pitch on that strikeout, I just felt something a little weird in my knee,” McGee told Rox Pile and other media members after Monday’s game. “Didn’t really feel right at the moment and didn’t want to push it either. More precautionary to see where I’m at tomorrow and how it feels.”"

McGee has had issues with his left knee in the past but told media members on Monday that he had passed tests after the game with the team’s medical staff and didn’t believe there to be any issues that would cause him to miss extended time.

"“We will find out more tomorrow,” McGee said. “It just didn’t feel right that last pitch. I was stretching a little bit and I noticed that and come out so (it’s) precautionary.”"
