The Colorado Rockies couldn’t complete their three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon, and four Padres’ homers off Rockies’ starter Kyle Kendrick pushed San Diego to a blowout 10-4 victory at Coors Field to salvage one game in the series.

Kendrick had a rough start for the Rockies, giving up six runs on six hits and a walk in four innings. All six runs scored on the four home runs hit by the Padres. San Diego never let up early, and scored their ten runs in the first six innings, putting up at least a run in each of those innings to completely run away with the game.

After Kendrick was removed from the game in the fourth, David Hale came on in relief for the Rox and allowed the game’s other four runs in three innings of work, giving up seven hits of his own.

Thankfully, Brooks Brown and Gonzalez Germen each threw scoreless innings in relief to close out the game, but by then it had of course been long lost by the Rockies. The loss, charged to Kendrick, raises his ERA to 6.37 on the season, and gives him the most home runs allowed in the Major Leagues this year.

On offense, the Rockies scored a run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Charlie Blackmon‘s leadoff home run, but James Shields shut them down — after Blackmon, the Rockies didn’t get another hit until the seventh inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Rockies put up three runs, highlighted by Ben Paulsen‘s 2-run single, but it was too little, too late against Shields and the Padres’ bullpen.

The Colorado Rockies return to action Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the start of a four-game series that will last through Thursday.
