The Milwaukee Brewers exploded for six runs off typically strong Jorge De La Rosa in just five innings, and ended up defeating the Colorado Rockies 9-5 on Friday night at Coors Field in Denver.

De La Rosa allowed six runs on eleven hits in five innings, taking a loss for the first time in six starts, and pushing the Rockies to their ninth loss in their last ten games.

De La Rosa allowed two home runs, too; both were in the first inning, to Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez, and before the Rockies had a chance to bat, they were losing 3-0.

The Brewers pushed across single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to make the game 6-0 off De La Rosa, highlighted by a Hernan Perez RBI double in the second, and a bases loaded walk to Shane Peterson in the third inning.

The closest the Rockies tried to get in the game was a three-run fourth inning, when Nolan Arenado hit a two-RBI triple, followed by Ben Paulsen‘s RBI double to make the game 6-3.

The Rockies then scored another in the sixth inning when Paulsen hit an RBI triple, making the game 6-4.

However, the Brewers put together a three-run event inning off Rockies’ reliever Christian Bergman and iced the game, eventually sealing the win for Milwaukee in the first of the three-game set.

The Rockies and Brewers face off again on Saturday afternoon at Coors Field, before finishing their series with a day game on Sunday.

As was the case on Friday, much more coming tomorrow morning from staff writer Michelle Stalnaker in her in-depth breakdown of the Rockies’ loss.
