Ahead of their final two games of a series against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies have tweaked their pitching rotation and position player availability.

Here are the roster moves made by the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.

Starting pitcher Austin Gomber, scheduled to take the mound in Wednesday’s finale against the Padres, has been placed on paternity leave as he and his wife await the birth of their second child. Taking Gomber’s place in the rotation will be right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez, who has been out of action since making a July 23 start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado manager Bud Black made the announcement about Gomber and Gonzalez during his media conference before Tuesday’s game.

Gonzalez has posted a 6.06 ERA this season in 19 games (15 starts), but struggled in two starts after the All-Star break, giving up 14 hits and 11 runs in a combined 9.0 innings pitched. He was scheduled to start a game in Anaheim against the Los Angeles Angels on July 28, but was placed on the COVID-19 injured list before the contest.

The Rockies will still need to make a roster move to bring Gonzalez off the 10-day injured list before he makes the start on Wednesday.

However, with Gomber already placed on the paternity list, the Rockies took advantage of the temporarily open roster spot to bring shortstop Alan Trejo back to Denver from Triple-A Albuquerque.

It’s the third time this season that Trejo has been a member of the active roster, and the first time since the Rockies optioned him on June 10. He is 4-for-10 (.400) as a pinch hitter this year while batting 4-for-23 (.174) in seven starts.

Trejo will likely provide depth for the Rockies during his time in Denver as the Rockies will continue their homestand after an off day on Thursday with the Arizona Diamondbacks coming in for a weekend series.

Germán Márquez (10-9, 3.77 ERA) will get the start for Colorado on Tuesday night against San Diego’s Matt Strahm (0-0, 8.44 ERA).
