Trevor Story trade rumors: Yankees have “checked in” with Rockies
According to a report, the New York Yankees have “checked in” with the Colorado Rockies on the availability of All-Star shortstop Trevor Story through a trade.
Here’s the latest on a potential Trevor Story trade between the New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies
In a tweet late Thursday afternoon, ESPN’s Buster Olney shared the news that the Yankees, along with other teams, have inquired about Story. The big question is what the response from Colorado interim general manager Bill Schmidt and the Rockies front office might be. Schmidt has gone on record saying that any deal that isn’t good for Colorado won’t be a deal that the franchise will make.
That includes any deal for Story, who will have his current contract with the Rockies expire at the end of this season. There has been no movement for the Rockies to resign Story, meaning the team will likely place a qualifying offer on him should he not be moved before the July 30 trade deadline.

Olney did say in his tweet that, should the Yankees acquire Story in a trade, Gleyber Torres would likely move from shortstop to second base. Torres’ name has come up constantly any time a Story rumor pops up, with one from earlier in the summer saying that how Torres played would determine if the Yankees would really enter the Story sweepstakes.
The Yankees entered Thursday night’s action with a 50-44 mark ahead of a game in Boston against the Red Sox, the team leading the American League East. New York is currently 3.5 games out of a Wild Card spot while trailing Boston in the division by seven games.
With the Rockies just completing a five-game homestand, the team has Thursday off before starting a 10-game swing through southern California. Story is slashing .243/.316/.423 this season with 11 homers and 43 RBI.
