MLB All-Star Game 2021: Charlie Blackmon dishes on Denver food, fun
With the 2021 MLB All-Star Game coming to Denver and Coors Field, here is what Colorado Rockies outfielder (and four-time All-Star) Charlie Blackmon considers some good things to do while in the Mile High City.
Some tips on Denver food and fun during the 2021 MLB All-Star Game from Colorado Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon.
Making his debut for the Rockies on June 7, 2011, and having only played for Colorado during his impressive Major League career, Blackmon has spent plenty of time in Denver. While fishing and getting outdoors always tops his list of things to do while in Colorado (when he actually has the time to do it), Blackmon’s first recommendation if he had a day to show people around Denver is to get outside the city a little bit and visit the town of Golden.
Known as the home of the Coors Brewery (and, yes, the namesake of Coors Field), you might think that connection influences Blackmon’s decision to put Golden on the list. However, he’s more into the city because of its outdoor influences.
“I personally really like the mountains, so I think a really fun thing to do might be to visit Golden, which is right there at the mountains,” Blackmon said of Golden, which is located roughly 16 miles west of Coors Field. “Maybe even hike along the river there.”
That would be the Clear Creek trail, which you can learn more about here.

Looking to stay more in Denver itself? Blackmon gave up a thumbs up to the 16th Street Mall (walking distance from Coors Field) which he called “pretty cool.” Nearby the LoDo (Lower Downtown) district which houses Coors Field is the Cherry Creek trail that leads to Confluence Park, a spot that Blackmon says is,” pretty awesome.”
When you’re ready to eat, Blackmon says getting above the crowd is a good call.
“I would definitely hit up like a rooftop bar or restaurant and get some pizza or something like that in LoDo,” Blackmon said. “Maybe check out McGregor Square, which is brand new (and right next to Coors Field).”
