For Colorado Rockies fans, the team’s originally scheduled 2020 home opener will take on a much different look this season from a much different vantage point.

With the start of the MLB season delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, die-hard followers of the Colorado Rockies can still get a taste of opening day with a special Stay at Home Opener/Feed the Rockies event set for today (April 3), the date on which the club’s home opener was initially slated.

The event will include a virtual game broadcast set to begin at 2 p.m. (Mountain time). The virtual game, which will feature some of the most memorable innings from home openers from previous seasons, will be broadcast on AT&T SportsNet and will be available online on www.rockies.com. In addition, Rockies social media accounts will provide special video content throughout the game.

Past and current Rockies players and coaches, including current manager Bud Black, will introduce various segments of the virtual game. Among the unique features will be virtual pregame ceremonies and even a traditional “seventh inning stretch.”

But perhaps the focal point of the event’s festivities will be a Feed the Rockies online fundraiser to benefit various food banks in Colorado and Wyoming, including Food Bank of the Rockies. During the virtual game, fans can make donations by going to rockies.com/Feed the Rockies.

The Colorado Rockies Baseball Club Foundation, organizer of the online fundraiser, will match all donations up to $300,000. From donations made, 100 percent of the proceeds will go to various food banks that serve people facing food insecurity in Colorado and Wyoming.
