The Colorado Rockies continue a stretch against the National League West on Monday night when the Arizona Diamondbacks pay a visit to Coors Field to start a three-game series.

Just returning from a four-game series in San Diego against the Padres, the Colorado Rockies will be looking to put some spark into an August that has seen them go 3-6, including just 1-3 at Petco Park.

Peter Lambert will open the series on the hill for the Rockies, followed by Jon Gray and Kyle Freeland. Lambert was the only Colorado starter to not see action in San Diego but we still got a chance to catch up with him in the clubhouse and he provided us with one of the three very interesting quotes we heard in southern California.

Arizona (59-59) comes into Coors Field six games ahead of the Rockies in the National League West standings. The Diamondbacks are also three games back of the NL Wild Card and will come into Denver having lost their last two games.

For the Rockies, much of the rest of the season could come down to two things: Seeing what Colorado’s young players can do in extended playing time and playing spoiler. Colorado still has games remaining this season against the Diamondbacks, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves and San Francisco Giants so they will have a say in which teams could represent the National League in the postseason.
