Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres: Weather updates

The Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres have had the third and fourth games of their four-game series at Coors Field delayed by weather in the Denver metro area.

As sunny skies were present over Coors Field, the Colorado Rockies announced that the game would not start on time based on storms that were around downtown Denver. These storms were expected to move into the Coors Field area from the north soon.

Eric Lauer (5-5, 4.14 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday for the Padres while Colorado will counter with German Marquez (6-3, 4.19 ERA). Marquez will make his second start of the season against San Diego. He beat them on May 10 at Coors Field as the Rockies posted a 12-2 win.

Marquez has made nine career appearances (seven of them starts) against San Diego, going 3-2 with a 4.32 ERA. He was surrendered 11 walks while striking out 52 Padres.

Colorado and San Diego have split the first two games of this series. The Rockies posted a 9-6 win on Thursday night before the Padres dealt the Rockies a historic loss on Friday night in a 16-12, 12-inning defeat.

This season, Colorado holds a 5-2 series edge against the Padres, including a 3-2 mark at Coors Field.

Saturday’s game marks the third game in a stretch of 17 games where the Rockies will face opponents from the National League West. Colorado has 20 games remaining before the All-Star break and 18 of those will come against divisional foes.

6 p.m. — Starting player introductions are being made and the colors are on the field for the National Anthem. However, the game is in a delay.

6:03 p.m. — Thunder is rumbling in the distance.

6:05 p.m. — First pitch is now scheduled for 6:40 p.m.

6:18 p.m. — Teams have started to warm up as the clouds gather overhead.

6:26 p.m. — Still on pace for a 6:40 start. Teams are starting to gather in the dugout.

6:33 p.m. — Rockies and Padres gathering in front of their respective dugouts. Waiting for umps and game start.

6:35 p.m. — Rockies relievers heading to the bullpen.

6:36 p.m. — Umps are on the field. Sun has come out. Let’s play ball!

SUNDAY

3:37 p.m. — The tarp is on the field as lightning and spring storms move into the Denver area.

3:45 p.m. — Rain is not falling yet at Coors Field. Tarp is on the field and delay continues as Prince’s “Purple Rain” plays over the loudspeakers.

3:50 p.m. — Still no rain. Plenty of fans sitting in their seats. No movement on the tarp. Players remain in the clubhouse.

3:52 p.m. — Here comes the rain … and the sun. It’s an odd thing but fans are starting to leave their seats as the rain comes down.

4:02 p.m. — Grounds crew has returned as the rain has stopped. Looks like they may be lifting the tarp.
