Colorado Rockies: Nolan Arenado leaves game after being hit by pitch
Colorado Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado was forced to leave Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field after being hit by a pitch in the third inning.
Nolan Arenado was hit on the left arm by Chicago pitcher Cole Hamels with one out in the third inning on Wednesday. It followed a series of inside pitches that the Cubs have seen from Colorado Rockies pitchers throughout the series, including Kris Bryant being plunked twice by Peter Lambert in Tuesday night’s Colorado win. Additionally, Javier Baez had to duck out of the way of a high pitch from Colorado’s Antonio Senzatela earlier in Wednesday’s matinee.
Arenado stayed in the game in the top of the fourth inning but was replaced by Ryan McMahon at third base when the Rockies came onto the field in the top of the fifth. He was officially labeled with a left forearm contusion. More information will be available after the game today and we will keep this article updated with what we learn in the Colorado postgame interview sessions. UPDATED INFORMATION BELOW!

The 28-year-old Arenado came into the day hitting .330 with 17 home runs and 57 RBI. Arenado ranks first in the National League with 86 hits and his 57 RBI are second in the NL. He had a season-high 15-game hitting streak from May 21 until June 5. That was the third-longest of his career and his longest since piecing together a 17-game skein in 2017.
Arenado batted .425 (45-for-106) in the month of May with nine doubles, one triple, nine homers and 29 RBI. His 45 hits in the month were tied for the sixth-most in a single month in Colorado history. They were the most since Todd Helton had 50 hits in August of 2000.
As part of his epic May, he drove in five runs on May 25 to pass Troy Tulowitzki for the sixth-most RBI in franchise history.

Here is the pitch that forced Arenado to leave the game…
UPDATED INFORMATION
Colorado manager Bud Black said after the game that the X-rays on Arenado’s arm were negative. Arenado told Rox Pile and other reporters that the pitch caught him “in the meat” of the forearm and he would see if he would miss any time or not but did say his plan was to play. He did say that the arm was tightening up on him and that’s why he left the game.
The Rockies begin a four-game series at home with the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.
“When things get super tight quick, you’re afraid it might be a break,” Arenado said.
I asked Arenado if he knew he would be the guy who would be hit after Senzatela threw high with Baez at the plate.
“Yeah,” Arenado said with a slight smile.
