Colorado Rockies injury update: Chris Rusin, Tony Wolters, Wade Davis
Prior to Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Coors Field, Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black gave updates on three of his players who are currently suffering from various injuries.
Catcher Tony Wolters was a late scratch from the Colorado Rockies lineup on Tuesday night after suffering a right hand contusion during an at-bat in Monday’s game against the Diamondbacks. Wolters remained out of the lineup again on Wednesday, with Chris Iannetta once again taking his place behind the dish.
“He’s still sore,” Black said of Wolters. “He’s going through some treatment. The swelling is down. He’s truly day to day. He’s feeling much better and confident of a near return, maybe even possibly tonight if we need him.”

Closer Wade Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 22 with a left oblique strain. Black told reporters, including Rox Pile, that Davis was not doing throwing bullpen sessions yet but he will throw with the pitching group for the fourth consecutive day. Black said that Davis was feeling better and there are no indications that he could be on the injured list longer than the required 10 days.
Chris Rusin, who has yet to see action this season for the Rockies, will pitch on Wednesday night in Triple-A Albuquerque. He opened the season on the injured list with a mid-back strain and is still working his way back into form.
Rusin has thrown in four games for the Isotopes so far this season, totaling 5.1 innings of work. He has also pitched seven innings spanning three games for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats.
Combined between the minor league outings this season, Rusin is 1-0 with a 5.84 ERA over 12.1 innings, allowing 15 hits while walking five and striking out nine.
“He’s doing great. He feels confident in his complete body health so he’s in a good spot,” Black said of Rusin. “We’re being cautious and we want to build up his innings.”
