This afternoon, Major League Baseball announced on Twitter that Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado has won the National League Player of the Week award for his play last week.

Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado was just announced as the winner of the National League Player of the Week award for his play from May 22 through May May 27.

Since last Tuesday, Arenado has hit a mind boggling .538/.556/1.077 with 4 home runs and 9 RBI. In his last seven games (since last Monday), he has had at least 2 hits in each game, hitting .516/.531/.968 in that span with 16 hits, 4 home runs, and 11 runs batted in.

Per the Rockies PR team, the only other Rockies to have seven consecutive multi-games are Andres Galarraga (July 23-29, 1996), Vinny Castilla (August 11-16, 2002), and Larry Walker (June 15-22, 2002).

In the last seven games, he has raised his slash line from .301/.355/.573 to .336/.378/.635. Now, he is on pace for 48 home runs, 147 RBI, 128 runs, 226 hits, and 48 doubles.

This week also featured Arenado’s 200th career home run, something that Rox Pile’s Aaron Hurt mentioned, among other milestones, as something that could happen on this homestand. Per the Rockies PR team, that homer made Arenado the fourth-fastest third baseman ever to hit 200 home runs. Arenado did it in his 925th career game. The three that were faster were Eddie Mathews (779 games), Bob Horner (882), and Troy Glaus (903)

This is the sixth time that Arenado has won the award in his career. Here are the times he previously won the award:

  • August 24, 2014
  • June 28, 2015
  • April 17, 2016
  • July 23, 2017
  • June 24, 2018

When the month ends this weekend, Arenado could find himself as a contender for National League Player of the Month award as thus far in May, he has hit .419/.455/.806 with 9 home runs, 25 RBI, 20 runs, 39 hits, 7 doubles, and a .417 BABIP.

He has won the National League Player of the Month award twice before, in September 2015 and July 2017.

As Arenado has heated up this month (and this week in particular), the Rockies have as well as they are 12-10 on the month and 5-2 in their past seven games, with three of those wins coming in walkoff fashion, including the last two wins.
