Colorado Rockies injury news: Bud Black discusses David Dahl’s departure
The Colorado Rockies hosted their first appearance on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball tonight since the 2001 campaign. Unfortunately, the national television audience saw yet another in what is becoming a long list of injuries for the Rockies.
David Dahl left the contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third inning after injuring himself on a swing in the first inning. In an in-game interview with ESPN, Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black said, according to a tweet from Thomas Harding of MLB.com, “On the strikeout on the high fastball, he felt something in his abdomen, down below the oblique. We got our fingers crossed. We hope it’s just a tweak.”
This season, the Rockies have already lost position players Daniel Murphy to a finger injury and Ryan McMahon to a left elbow strain to the injured list. Additionally, starting pitcher Tyler Anderson (knee inflammation) and Jake McGee (sprained knee) are also on the injured list.

Dahl has been the most consistent hitter for the Rockies in the first nine games of the season, entering Sunday night’s contest with a team-leading .353 average and six RBI. If he misses any length of time with an injury, it would be a big blow for a Colorado offense that has struggled to score just 24 runs through their first nine games.
The 25-year-old outfielder missed the entire 2017 season after suffering a stress reaction injury to his rib in spring training. He also played in just 77 games for the Rockies last season, partly due to a foot fracture he suffered on June 1.
In 505 Major League at-bats over the course of three seasons, Dahl has a .297 average with 25 home runs and 78 RBI.
We will keep this article updated with the latest information, including what Black tells the media after Colorado’s series finale with the Dodgers on Sunday night. Please check back for more information as we will post it as it becomes available.
