MIAMI — Colorado Rockies first baseman Daniel Murphy has been held out of the lineup for Saturday night’s game against the Miami Marlins after suffering a jammed finger in Friday’s Colorado win.
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black confirmed to Rox Pile and other media members inside the Rockies dugout before Saturday’s game that Daniel Murphy was scratched from the lineup because of the sore and swollen finger on his left hand.
Ryan McMahon will take over at first base on Saturday night in Murphy’s absence with Garrett Hampson earning his first start of the season at second base.

Murphy was injured in the fourth inning of Colorado’s 6-1 victory on Friday night when he dove for a ball hit by Brian Anderson. He smothered the ball and threw to Colorado pitcher German Marquez covering first base for the out. Following the play, Murphy was attended to on the field but decided to stay in the game.
"“When he made that play in the hole, he jammed the index finger of his glove hand (left hand),” Black said. “It was sore last night but he was able to make it through the game. Today, it’s a little sore. We’re getting it looked at by some doctors and there will be an X-ray. I’ll know more as we move through the day today.”"
Murphy went 0-for-5 in his Rockies debut on Opening Day but did collect his first hit of his Colorado career on Friday night on a 1-for-5 night.
The 33-year-old Murphy was Colorado’s biggest signing of the offseason and was expected to put a jolt into a Rockies offense that struggled mightily at times last season. His signing also allowed the Rockies to shift Ian Desmond from first base to center field, a move that paid off for the team Friday night with a magnificent catch from Desmond at the wall.
We will keep this article updated with the latest on Murphy’s condition.
