Sure, we may be more than two weeks away from the Colorado Rockies opening the season on the road against the Miami Marlins. However, the lineup used in Wednesday’s spring training matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks sure looks like something that could be rolled out against the Marlins on March 28.

We know that Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black has tipped his hand that he may be looking to get more at-bats for Nolan Arenado by moving him up in the order to the second spot. We also know that Black has said that being able to send out a lineup that features a left-right rotation all the way through it would be advantageous.

Well, with that in mind, check out the Colorado lineup at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick on Wednesday. Yep, it has Arenado in the second spot (right behind leadoff hitter and left-handed Charlie Blackmon) with left-handed Daniel Murphy hitting third. All the way down, that’s a left-right rotating batting order. Interesting.

Now certainly there is a lot of time before the season opener and there are plenty of things that can happen between now and Opening Day. For instance, we don’t know who has won the starting job at second base between Garrett Hampson, Ryan McMahon and Pat Valaika. We also don’t know that Kyle Freeland will be the Opening Day pitcher (but we’re thinking that is a pretty good possibility, with German Marquez pitching the following day for a pretty powerful 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation).

It may not feel like anything close to Opening Day in Colorado today with a bomb cyclone stealing the headlines and snow coming down at a fast pace. However, it seems that thoughts may be starting to turn toward South Beach in Scottsdale.
