Oddsmakers not showing much faith in the 2019 Colorado Rockies
With the dawning of the New Year came a renewed feeling that baseball was just a few short weeks away from returning to our lives. However, some of the early prognostications coming out of Las Vegas are not very favorable for the 2019 Colorado Rockies.
After back-to-back winning seasons and postseason berths, the Colorado Rockies are predicted to be just above the .500 mark by the latest betting lines released by Caesars Palace. The iconic Las Vegas casino puts the over-under for Colorado wins this season at 82, which would put them a predicted 13 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West race.
Elsewhere in the National League West, Caesars is putting the over-under for the San Diego Padres wins at 77.5, Arizona Diamondbacks at 77 and San Francisco Giants at 73.
So how would Colorado’s projected 82 wins put them in comparison to other NL teams battling for the postseason? The Chicago Cubs are at 89, St. Louis Cardinals are at 88.5, Atlanta Braves are at 84, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets are at 83.5 and the Philadelphia Phillies at 83. That represents a lot of teams fighting for the postseason … and predicted to finish just ahead of Colorado in the standings.

Last season, the Colorado Rockies earned 91 wins and lost a tie-breaker game for the NL West crown at the Dodgers before going on the road to win the Wild Card over the Cubs. In 2017, Colorado logged its first winning season since 2010 by posting an 87-75 record before losing to the Diamondbacks on the road in the Wild Card contest.
Colorado’s roster has undergone significant changes since last season. Gerardo Parra, Carlos Gonzalez, DJ LeMahieu and Adam Ottavino are likely to not return to the Rockies while free agent Daniel Murphy has been the biggest signing of the offseason as Colorado inked him to play first base.
According to rumors, Colorado is supposedly in the mix for free agent infielder Brian Dozier, who could replace LeMahieu at second base.
