Bryce Harper has been one of baseball’s best — and at times most inconsistent – hitters since his debut. But when he is on, there is no stopping him.

So it goes without saying that now that he is a free agent, he is drawing the attention of a lot of teams, and also, just about every fanbase. While the winner of the Bryce Harper Sweepstakes is still very much up in the air, one team that has been suggested as a potential dark horse candidate to land the lefty slugger is the Colorado Rockies.

The chances of Harper signing in Colorado are still very, very slim, but it’s an interesting idea to think about. Harper certainly has plenty of incentives to consider making Colorado his next home.  Not only would he be able to enjoy our state’s outdoor recreation opportunities, but he would also be close to his hometown of Las Vegas.

Additionally, he would play half his games at Coors Field, hitting in a lineup alongside superstars like Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, and his old friend from Washington, the newly-acquired Daniel Murphy.

Could Murphy help the Rockies land another big bat this offseason? The two played together during the Washington Nationals’ best years and the draw of an old friend certainly couldn’t hurt the Rockies’ appeal to Harper.

Recently, the guys at Blake Street Ball TV talked about the chances of Harper signing with the Rockies and what that would mean for the team going forward.

While it is probably a stretch to imagine Harper coming to Colorado, it isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility. Last offseason, Colorado shocked the baseball world by signing Wade Davis, so maybe they’ll shake up the free agent market again this time around.
