LAS VEGAS – Since we last checked in with you, both Colorado Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich and skipper Bud Black have checked in and a major trade rumor has broke.

Though no 40-man roster moves have been made yet and the most major officially done deal was the Colorado Rockies hiring of new hitting coach Dave Magadan, the Denver Nine has been as talked about as any.

Here’s the latest from the 2018 Major League Baseball Winter Meetings:

Despite Jim Bowden’s report that the Rockies are seeking a first baseman, we can report that Wil Myers is not somebody the Rockies will target. The 28-year-old Padre is owed a guaranteed $64 million through 2023.

Rockies legend Troy Tulowitzki, who was cut yesterday by the Blue Jays, has drawn interest from both Bay Area teams. The shortstop might have to change positions given his health and it is unknown just how much is left in the often hurt but currently healthy 34-year-old’s bat.

Rockies No. 5 prospect and 2016 fourth overall pick Riley Pint is preparing for 2019 as normal Jeff Bridich said on Tuesday night. The recently turned 21-year-old righty threw just 8.1 IP in 2018 and battled an oblique injury.

Pat Valaika is viewed as a candidate to fill the hole vacated by now free agent DJ LeMahieu at second base. Following a strong 2017, Valaika struggled in 2018, slashing .156/.214 /246 in 68 games as a backup infielder.

The Rockies are working with stud right-hander Jon Gray to maintain and re-regain weight this offseason. Gray admitted following the season that his struggles to keep weight had a negative impact on his pitching. Gray’s drop in velocity was noticeable and never looked quite correct in 2018 after a huge second half in 2017.
