July was a good month for the Colorado Rockies. After a disappointing June, the club caught fire, restoring excitement in the dugout and giving the team their best chance to win the division in franchise history.

Lets dive into five interesting numbers from July that helped propel the Colorado Rockies to where they stand today.

July record: 17-6, .738 winning percentage

This was the first time the Rockies have won 17 games in a single month since they went 17-12 last May. Their .738 winning percentage was the second-highest for a month in franchise history. Their best winning percentage was .750 in July 2009 when they went 21-7. The Rockies began July six games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the division lead. On August 1, they were just a half-game back of first. They also went from five games back of the second Wild Card spot to finding themselves in a three-way tie for the second Wild Card spot.

July team ERA: 3.16

More from Colorado Rockies News

Rockies pitchers posted a 3.16 ERA in the month of July, the lowest ERA for a month in franchise history. Another sign of the Rockies’ young pitching corps’ development was their ability to hold opponents to a .220 batting average. That was the lowest batting average against for a month in the club’s history.

Lefty Tyler Anderson helped lead the way, posting a 2.16 ERA in July. Anderson was historically dominant over a stretch of two starts on June 29 in Los Angeles and on July 4 against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field. In those two games, Anderson put up consecutive starts of eight scoreless innings, only the third time that has been done in franchise history.  He was the first Rockies pitcher ever to post such consecutive starts in which he allowed four or fewer hits and the first in the majors since Jake Arrieta in 2015.

Kyle Freeland posted a 2.56 ERA for the month and Jon Gray put up a 1.66.
