Pitching

The starting pitching has been dismal at times this month. Ace Jon Gray isn’t spotting his pitches well and it’s had somewhat of an impact on the rest of the rotation. The starters have extremely high ERAs with the highest going to Jon Gray with a 5.79. Chad Bettis, however, does have the lowest with a 2.43 ERA. In total, starter losses outweigh the wins at 8-11. The starters aren’t entirely doing their jobs and that causes the relievers to be overworked as was discussed in this article.

More from Colorado Rockies News

Speaking of relievers, the bullpen might be the most positive thing I talk about in this entire article. The Rockies bullpen is doing exactly what they’re expected to and it shows. Wade Davis has shown he’s worth all the money Colorado is paying him as he currently has 10 saves in his 11.1 innings pitched.

The best guy in that bullpen, however, is one that’s been with the Rockies for a while and that’s Adam Ottavino. What’s not to like with this guy? He currently has an ERA of 0.60 and has struck out 28, the most of anyone in that bullpen right now. I see this continuing with the bullpen really showing up the starters, but how long will it be until they’re burned out?

Underachieving Player: Jon Gray

Exceeding Expectations: Adam Ottavino
