It was announced a few moments ago that Jenny Cavnar will fill-in Drew Goodman on the Colorado Rockies TV broadcast today.

Jenny Cavnar is somebody who, if you have ever watched the Rockies on TV, is somebody that you are pretty familiar with. She has done pre- and post-game shows as well as field reporting for select games for the Rockies since 2012. In 2015, she filled in as a color analyst for Jerry Schemmel on Rockies radio for a few games as she worked with Jack Corrigan.

She even did play by play on AT&T Sports Rocky Mountain for a Rockies spring training game this year when she filled in for regular Rockies TV play by play broadcaster, Drew Goodman, and worked with Jeff Huson and Cory Sullivan but today, she will do her first regular season game of doing play by play, as she will be filling in for Goodman for the first of the Rockies’ three game series with the San Diego Padres.

With that, she becomes only the third woman to do play by play for a team for a regular season game. The first was actually with the Rockies as in 1993, the team’s first season, Gayle Gardner, then of NBC, filled in for Rockies regular play by play voice Charlie Jones on a game in August against the Cincinnati Reds. The second was Suzyn Waldman, who did play by play on a regular basis for the New York Yankees in the mid-1990s on TV.

Waldman is the only full-time broadcaster who is a woman in baseball today, but she only does color analysis on Yankees radio. She has held that position since 2005, when she replaced Charley Steiner, who left the Yankees to work with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
