WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Colorado Rockies and Washington Nationals will attempt to finish their four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Nationals Park. However, the weather forecast could make that a tall order.

Rain began falling at Nationals Park around 10:30 a.m. (Eastern time) and a downpour ensued just before 11 a.m., forcing the ground crew to pull the tarp onto the field. At 11:50 a.m., the tarp was still on the field and rain was falling.

@RockiesWX says that the forecast isn’t looking good for the game, and only looks worse as the day goes along.

One of the biggest issues with a potential washout on Sunday is that this is Colorado’s only scheduled regular-season trip to our nation’s capital. The team was scheduled to leave after the game on Sunday to head to Pittsburgh, where they are slated to begin a three-game series against the Pirates on Monday night. However, cold weather and precipitation is forecast for Pittsburgh during the first part of the week, meaning the Rockies could be playing a waiting game there as well.

Colorado won the first two games of this series but Washington came back to capture Saturday’s matinee behind a dominating performance from Max Scherzer. Only a two-run homer from Charlie Blackmon in his return from a quad injury kept the Rockies from being no-hit by the three-time Cy Young Award winner in a dominating performance.

I will keep this page updated from Nationals Park as I am sitting in the press box and keeping an eye on the field and weather conditions. Check below for the latest updates and make sure you refresh the page to see the latest conditions.
