The minor league baseball season just started on Thursday for some teams (and Friday for others) and there are already some news and notes on some top prospects of the Colorado Rockies.

Three of the Rockies top prospects have already been in the news, for one reason or another for their respective teams.

Yency Almonte

Yency Almonte was the Opening Day starter for the Albuquerque Isotopes, the Triple-A team of the Rockies, and, in the team’s 9-3 loss to the Salt Lake Bees, affiliate of the Angels, on Thursday, he was not able to make it out of the first inning.

He was removed due to an undisclosed injury and he was placed on the 7-day disabled list (in the minors, they only have the 7-day DL), according to Chris Jackson, a freelance sports writer in Albuquerque who is formerly of Purple Row, on Twitter.

We’ll have to see how the injury to Almonte effects his development this year, if it lingers on for a long period of time.

David Dahl and Raimel Tapia

David Dahl was 1-for-4 in the first game of the regular season but yesterday, in the Isotopes 9-5 win over Salt Lake, he had a great day as he went 3-for-5 with two singles, a double, a stolen base, and four RBI.

Raimel Tapia also had a good game as he went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, a walk as well as three runs.

Brendan Rodgers

The Rockies top prospect, Brendan Rodgers, opened the season with Double-A Hartford and he has done very well to start off their season. He went 1-for-4 on Thursday, in the team’s opener, but he was much better on Friday.

In a 4-3 loss in 11 innings against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, affiliate of the Blue Jays, Rodgers went 3-for-5 with a single, a double, and a home run. He also had a run and two RBI.

Even though between the Rockies two top minor league affiliates, they are 1-3 to start the season, Rodgers, Dahl, and Tapia had some good games and all of three of them are looking to continue their success at 4:05 MT for Hartford and 6:35 MT for the Isotopes.
