If you watched the Colorado Rockies play the San Diego Padres on Monday night, you may have been in for quite the surprise. I know I was and it all as to do with Mr. Ian Desmond.

I remember it like it was yesterday … because it was yesterday. The Rockies were up to bat and Desi is due up. The camera gives us a nice shot of him walking to the batter’s box and he was doing his regular pre-at-bat ritual. I didn’t pay too much attention to that I was checking the Rox Pile Twitter (shameless plug @RoxPileFS) as they were live tweeting the game. That’s when it happened.

I look up from my phone to see that Ian Desmond was not only in the batter’s box but he also brought a friend with him. Who is this friend you may ask? Well I don’t know his name, but I haven’t been able to get that friend out of my mind ever since Monday night. So here you go … this is what you wanted to see.

Just take in all of that. You can’t look away, can you? I know I can’t and it’s sad, but I think there’s something else that’s also been brought along with Desi’s new ‘stache. It’s almost as if Ian Desmond has some new found mojo just from his mustache. Here’s why.

Desmond had a pretty good night last night in the Rockies win. He went 2-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBI. Not too shabby for the man with the ‘stache. Those stats gave him a .400 batting average and 1.267 OPS for the night … and it didn’t stop there. Desmond also kept his 1.000 fielding percentage and one of the defensive plays also made everyone want to say thank you to the Padres for extending the netting.

So maybe the Colorado Rockies should add a mustache clause to Ian Desmond’s contract. If he did this on day one with the ‘stache, I wonder how much more he’ll do.

Ian Desmond, I beg of you. Don’t shave that beautiful mustache.
