While Raimel Tapia may not have had the best Spring Training, he should still be on this roster right now instead of Mike Tauchman. Yeah, he had a .242 average and was caught stealing three times, but the fact of the matter is that he has the potential to help so much more than Mike Tauchman.
The argument can be made that Raimel Tapia is still fine tuning some things, and therefore, they want him to start out in Triple-A. But even with those needs, he is a dynamic player that the Rockies can use in so many ways.
Tauchman pinch hit in the game on Friday and supplied a strikeout. There is no way that a person can say that they would prefer Tauchman over Tapia in that situation, especially if all they are going to do is strikeout.

Tauchman has struggled with strikeouts in his short time at the Major League level. Last year, he struck out 10 times in only 27 at-bats. I’m not ripping on him, I’m just suggesting that the cons outweigh his pros.
When dealing with Tapia, the Rockies can even allow him to make some mistakes, just because his upside is so large. As he showed in multiple games last year, he has the potential to change the ballgame with his speed and getting on base.
When Tauchman struck out in the 7th inning, it put a dent in the possibility of a comeback that the Rockies had had. Tapia could’ve provided so many opportunities that Tauchman could not. That was a huge moment in the game, and it could have played out so much differently.
And yes, it is just one game, but every game proves important in a division like the NL West, and giving a guy like Tapia however many games away from the Club could hurt there chances. And, as they say, “you can’t win the division in April, but you can lose it.”

Of course, Tapia is not a Charlie Blackmon, but he is a guy that can have a powerful impact on this team. Hopefully, the Rockies realize that sooner rather than later, and allow bring him back up to Colorado.
