Colorado Rockies reassign Brendan Rodgers to minor league camp
Today, the Colorado Rockies made another round of reassignments as Spring Training moves towards its completion. Today’s reassignments included the system’s top prospect Brendan Rodgers.
With players like Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story, it is pretty hard for a prospect on the left side of the infield to shine for the Colorado Rockies. Nonetheless, Rodgers, the top shortstop prospect in all of baseball made quite a splash this spring.
Overall, he was hitting .286 with three homeruns and seven RBIs in 49 at-bats this spring. He looked confident at the plate and his defensive play has turned some heads. Still just 21 years old, it is clear that Rodgers will have a bright future in the Colorado Rockies system.

However, his time to shine will have to wait for at least a little longer. Earlier today, he was reassigned to minor league camp for the rest of the spring. This was not a shocking move and it is likely that Rockies fans will see him with the big league club in the near future.
It now looks like Rodgers will begin the year with the AA Hartford Yard Goats or the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes. No matter where he starts, it is very possible that he could be called up during this season.
Next: Why the Rockies aren't rushing Rodgers to MLB
As I predicted earlier this week, I think Brendan Rodgers will prove to be the biggest surprise player of the year. I expect Rodgers to have a breakout year at the AA level before being called up around the middle of the season and helping contribute to the Rockies success in the second half of the season.
