So now that Carlos Gonzalez is nearing a deal with the Colorado Rockies, pending his physical, the Rockies fan base is seemingly going into hysteria. I mean, I’m still reeling from the idea of the Rockies signing him. As many people who are Rockies fans are saying no to a reunion. Why is this? Well, it’s time I turn into therapist Olivia, so sit back and relax and read the notes I’ve been taking about all of us.

While many love the thought of CarGo back in a Rockies uniform, many are a little skeptical of the Rockies resigning Gonzalez. One of the biggest reasons is because of last year being such a tough season statistically. I mean, Rockies fans in the first half of the season were all trying to figure out what was wrong with CarGo. Though as soon as we were coming to a conclusion and mid-August rolled around, he picked up his usual repertoire and we were all happy once again. It’s common for us to forgive those with whom we have been familiar and comfortable for a while. Though we may have forgiven CarGo, we surely didn’t forget his struggles last season.

Rockies fans hold this team near and dear to their hearts. That passion means they have high standards on the way this team should be playing. Last season was a good season for the Rockies and fans alike, but not with CarGo in the mix for much of it. Him not performing up to fans’ standards is the first half was not good. Then comes the deep passion we all have for the Rockies and how CarGo helped the Rockies get to the Wild Card game.

He did help, even in October. Gonzalez went 2-for-5 with an RBI during the Wild Card game in Arizona. Still, don’t forget how many fans were ready to throw him away and move on to the younger players because of the one bad season he had. This happens with many other fanbases so this shouldn’t come at a surprise.

Now with the notion of CarGo being signed again soon, there are many mixed emotions.

One thought that has popped into my mind is that some fans don’t want someone on a team who can’t contribute but also still reap the benefits of having him in the clubhouse and contributing in others ways to a productive season as a team. That’s completely understandable and could be something to think about when it comes to CarGo. Others are convinced that CarGo is out of his prime and has peaked, which is why he had a lackluster season. Age-wise, he’s 32 and maybe a few years away from being asked about the “r” word.

Final Thoughts

There are many emotions that go into being a fan of a team. There are even many more emotions that go into dealing with specific players. Carlos Gonzalez is one of those players about whom you will see many mixed emotions. This doesn’t come as a surprise either we all have different feelings on the idea of CarGo coming back.

Will he have the same stats as last year? Hopefully not. Though fans may or may not have high expectations for him, based on his performance last year and that he’s back on a one-year deal. This will not only be a year for Carlos Gonzalez to redeem himself, but also win back the fans who had already dismissed him.
