The Colorado Rockies Triple A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, sent three players to the Arizona Fall League starting in October, Yency Almonte, James Farris and Zach Jemiola. Since the start of Fall League, Almonte and Farris have played well enough to represent the Rockies in the Fall All-Star Game Saturday night.

For the Arizona Fall League, the Colorado Rockies sent three players to play there and two of them (Yency Almonte and James Farris) played well enough to earn spots on the All-Star roster for the league.

Yency Almonte

Almonte, a reliever for the Salt River Rafters, has a 6.23 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched. He hasn’t allowed a home run while striking out nine. However, an area he needs to improve on is his walks. In only 8.2 innings, he has allowed seven base on balls.

Almonte played the 2017 season with the Hartford Yard Goats, the Rockies Double A affiliate, and the Albuquerque Isotopes. As a starting pitcher, he finished with a 2.00 ERA in 76.1 innings pitched for Hartford. He gave up only four home runs, but again struggled with walks as he gave up 31. His biggest strength is definitely his strikeout ability. Almonte strikes out batters at a very high rate. With Hartford, he had 71 strikeouts. That’s almost a strikeout an inning.

On July 25, the Rockies promoted Almonte to Triple A. With the Isotopes, he had a 4.89 ERA in 35 innings pitched. He struggled a little more in Triple A has he gave up seven home runs, walked 21 and struck out 22.

The Rockies added him to the 40 man roster a couple of times, but he was never added to the MLB roster.

Almonte is one of the Rockies best pitching prospects and can be another great young arm to add to their bullpen in the future.

James Ferris

Farris, also a reliever for the Salt River Rafters, has a 12.00 ERA in six innings pitched. He has allowed one home run, two walks and four strikeouts. Although he has struggled in the Fall League, he proved himself in the 2017 season.

Farris played the 2017 season with the Hartford Yard Goats and the Albuquerque Isotopes. he finished with a 1.45 ERA in 18.2 innings pitched for Hartford. As a reliever, he only allowed one home run and walked only two. Similar to Almonte, Farris excelled in swing and misses. He had 28 strikeouts with Hartford.

He was later promoted to Triple A where he had a 4.62 ERA in 39 innings pitched with the Isotopes. Again like Almonte, he gave up more home runs and walks than he did in Double A, eight and 15 respectively. However, his strikeout rate stayed at a high rate with 41 strikeouts.

With the amount of young arms the Rockies already have at the starting position, both Almonte and Ferris will bring young and talented arms to the Rockies bullpen.
