James Paxton, SP, Seattle

Before four of their five Opening Day starters hit the DL, you would’ve guessed Felix Hernandez was the most dominant Mariner starter. That’d be incorrect. It’d be the Canadian-born James Paxton (he has a pretty cool Maple Leaf tattoo to prove it). He is set to make his return from the DL on Wednesday for the first game at Safeco.

More from Colorado Rockies News

Paxton went on the disabled list after an early May start against the Oakland Athletics. It has been one of the many injuries to the Seattle Mariners but they’re excited to get him back. Why? Before his left forearm strain, he was building a very good AL Cy Young resume.

In his six starts this year, Paxton is 3-0 with a 1.43 ERA. Four of those six starts were Paxton going at least six innings of throwing a shutout. Including not giving up a run in 13 innings of work against the Major League-best Houston Astros.

He has yet to give up a home run this year. The Rockies hit a lot of home runs. One of those two is going to have to give. As well as Wednesday’s starter for the Rockies, Antonio Senzaela must repeat his excellent performance against the Cardinals to give the Rockies a shot to beat Paxton.
