According to MLB.com, the Arizona Diamondbacks are slated to name Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo as the team’s next manager. So what does that do for the Colorado Rockies in their search for a new manager?

Lovullo was considered the front-runner for the Diamondbacks job for some time and was never strongly considered in Colorado, so the move doesn’t take a front-runner out of the opening in LoDo. It does, however, add a little more clarity to the search as names keep dropping and the apparent possibilities for Colorado’s next manager keep shrinking.

Don Wakamatsu, Kansas City’s bench coach, reportedly interviewed for both the Colorado and Arizona manager positions. Obviously, he was not chosen for the job in the desert and it is said that he is out of the running with the Rockies as well.

Wakamatsu joins former MLB manager Ron Roenicke as names who have been rumored as part of the Colorado manager search but have since been ruled out of the running.

Those who have been rumored to still be in the running for the Colorado position include Miami bench coach Tim Wallach, Chicago Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez, and former San Diego manager Bud Black among others.

With the World Series between the Cubs and Cleveland Indians recently completed, it’s thought that Martinez as well as Cleveland coaches Sandy Alomar Jr. and Brad Mills could gain interviews in Denver.

It has been rumored that the Rockies will move quickly to fill the position left vacant when Walt Weiss resigned the day after the 2016 season concluded. Some timetables even point to Colorado announcing their manager by the conclusion of the weekend.
