On Monday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies put out some barriers on their infield and shallow outfield grass. The barriers were in the general shape of a hockey rink, and looked like, well, they were setting up for a hockey game.
Oh! That’s because they were! The National Hockey League’s Stadium Series comes to Denver in February, as the Colorado Avalanche will host the Detroit Red Wings at Coors Field that month.

To tell you the truth, I know literally nothing about hockey and find it very difficult for me to care about the sport enough to ever get into it, so… cool?

No, really — I’m not trying to throw shade here, I am just totally ignorant to it. Is it cool? Do “real” hockey fans like playing outdoor games in football and baseball stadiums? Being the traditionalist I am, I would assume if faced with the choice, I’d hate it (if I were a hockey fan) only because it’s a gimmick-y thing to try to attract the casual fan and I hate everything like that.
But then again, the real traditional hockey guys were skating on outdoor frozen ponds and shooting pucks into trash cans, or something, so maybe this is hockey returning to its roots…
Either way, the game takes place February 27, 2016. That uniform tweet above sent a lot of ripples through Twitter, with a debate going on whether or not it’s a cool uniform. I personally really like it. The black sun inside the ‘C’ is a bizarre choice, but other than that… yummy.
What about you?
Also, no rundown today, because there literally isn’t that much Rockies news out there after the weekend that we haven’t already covered on a rundown, so… enjoy tomorrow’s when it comes out again!
