Jorge De La Rosa was brilliant in an eight-inning complete game, but Alex Wood was even better, and the Colorado Rockies never figured out the Los Angeles Dodgers’ lefty starter, getting just two hits on the night and losing 2-0 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Also, bizarrely, a night after the Rockies and Dodgers played a 5:23 game that went 16 innings, both clubs combined on just a 2:07 game on Wednesday night, making it one of the fastest games of the season for either club, immediately after enduring the longest of the year.

The Dodgers scored the only two runs of the night, first when AJ Ellis hit a solo home run in the second inning off De La Rosa. The only other run De La Rosa allowed came in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Corey Seager singled home Austin Barnes to give Los Angeles a little bit of insurance against the Rockies’ potent offense.

Oh yeah… about that offense… it never showed up. Alex Wood was brilliant, needing just 78 pitches to get through eight innings. He allowed just one hits and no walks, while striking out five, and would’ve started the ninth had the Dodgers not chosen to use Kenley Jansen to close the game down and ensure a series win in the rubber match.

De La Rosa was no slouch, though, throwing just the second complete game of his career. He went eight innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five hitters in the process.

After a day off on Thursday, the Colorado Rockies return home Friday night to face the San Diego Padres.
