It didn’t happen the way anybody wanted it to, but the Colorado Rockies now have three members of their roster in the Major League Baseball All Star Game.

The way it happened wasn’t ideal, but it is official: Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has been named to the National League All Star Team, and will participate this week at All Star festivities in Cincinnati.

Miami Marlins’ second baseman Dee Gordon injured his thumb sliding in a game Saturday afternoon, and will miss the All Star Game to recover from the injury. With that happening, two things occurred that ended up benefitting the Rockies: DJ LeMahieu was named the starting second baseman, in Gordon’s place, and Tulowitzki replaced Gordon on the All Star roster.

It was revealed on Twitter immediately following the Rockies’ 3-2 win over Atlanta on Saturday afternoon:

Obviously, no one wanted it to happen like this; Gordon is having a phenomenal season, and deserved to be an All Star starter and earned the right to enjoy the game.

But, both LeMahieu and Tulowitzki are having solid seasons, too, so at least it’ll be fun to watch two Rockies enjoy the game. Perhaps there’s a chance LeMahieu, Tulo, and Nolan Arenado will be on the field at the same time at some point during the game, too.
