The MLB Amateur Entry Draft is nearly here. We will have more content as players are picked, but we want to know what you think about the Colorado Rockies’ strategy now.

The Colorado Rockies’ front office is working overtime this week (all year, but really this week) as they prepare for the Major League Baseball Amateur Entry Draft that begins in a few days. There, the Rox hold four of the top 44 selections in this year’s draft, hoping to make waves with impact prospects for the already decently-strong farm system.

Time will tell how the Rockies will do in the draft this year, but it is a big draft as Jeff Bridich’s first crack at the nut. Drafts are graded out several years after the fact, but obviously, his strategy will at least become quickly apparent by about the 45th pick on draft weekend.

Before we get there, though, we want to know from you how you would approach the draft. Pitching, or hitting? College players, or high school guys? Raw talents, or specialized skills? The best athlete available, or drafting on general position needs?

Let’s break it down in a two-part poll question today.

First, do you acquire college players, who may move faster, or high school players, who will be raw but younger and have a potentially higher upside? Do you go with a big-time college stud from a national program, or a high schooler who killed the competition and enters the organization at 18 years old?

And for our other poll question, do you prefer pitching, or hitting? Drafting isn’t necessarily about position needs (since it takes so many years for a player to get to the big leagues after the draft), but it is about organization-wide strategy and development philosophy.

Do you want to see the Rockies bolster their organization-wide pitching depth? Or add power hitters and offensive threats that can pare down one day to help them score runs better than anybody in the league?

Have at it!

As always, you are more than welcome to tweet your poll and draft thoughts to us @RoxPileFS, or to me personally, @BobbyDeMuro.
