Colorado Rockies closer Adam Ottavino has undergone Tommy John surgery; the inevitable and now official end to his season and at least a portion of next year (most likely).

What we all intuitively knew was going to happen is now official, after Colorado Rockies closer Adam Ottavino went under the knife Thursday morning in Florida to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow.
According to the Denver Post, Ottavino was in Florida getting a second opinion on his arm from renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
When Andrews decided the injury was severe enough, Ottavino made the decision to have the surgery Thursday:
"Ottavino was scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews in Florida for a final opinion about the partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. If Andrews — the go-to surgeon for injured elbows among major-league pitchers — agreed with Rockies doctors, Ottavino was ready for immediate surgery, he said.“He’s seen more elbows than anybody,” Ottavino said. “I plan on coming back next year as strong as I can.”"
No surprise there, and it sounds like he did just fine in surgery, telling the Post everything went as planned.
Well, not much “new” news here but simply a wrap-up on a story we all knew was coming after news dropped the other day that he had an elbow injury. It goes without saying how big of a loss Ottavino is for an over-worked bullpen that’s already thrown nearly 100 innings in the first 26 games of the season.
Glad to hear surgery went well, and here’s to Adam recovering well and on schedule, and coming back stronger than ever next season!
