Denver, your Colorado Rockies are now 6-2 (5-0 on the road!), and they’ve got a very promising new closer in charge of the ninth.
Here’s a fun late-night tidbit for any Colorado Rockies fans up late on adrenaline and pride after the 4-1 win in San Francisco.

Well how about that.
We’ve all speculated for a few days (and really, before that) that Adam Ottavino was going to assert himself as the closer of the future at some point this year.
Nobody really thought it might be this soon, but with the way he’s looked (especially after LaTroy Hawkins’ struggles), why wouldn’t you make the move now?
The Rockies are off to a fast start at 6-2, including 5-0 on the road, and a big chunk of that hot start is on the shoulders of a lights-out bullpen.
Even with Hawkins, the ‘pen has put up some pretty good numbers early this year:
And at the top of that group is now-closer Adam Ottavino. Ottavino’s got a lights-out slider and a plus-plus fastball that’s now routinely touching 98 miles per hour. I can’t imagine any Rockies fan who wouldn’t want Ottavino in the closer’s role right now.
Welcome to the ninth, Adam. It’s unlike any other inning in baseball, but we’re thinking with your stuff and mentality you might fit in just fine shutting down games at 20th and Blake (and, considering the undefeated streak, on the road as well).
