After trading Dexter Fowler away to the Houston Astros, and having him eventually end up with the Chicago Cubs, the Colorado Rockies welcomed him back to Coors Field for the first time this weekend in Denver.

Welcome back, Dex.

The Colorado Rockies welcomed Dexter Fowler back to Denver for the first time after they traded him away to the Houston Astros for Jordan Lyles before last season.

After a tough game Friday afternoon, Fowler hit two triples Saturday and ignited the Cubs’ offense to  defeat the Rockies in Coors Field.

From MLB.com:

"Cubs outfielder Dexter Fowler appreciated the applause from the fans at Coors Field when he was introduced on Friday for the Rockies home opener. After all, he called the ballpark home for six seasons.“Everybody was awesome,” Fowler said Saturday. “Everybody was like, ‘We miss you.’ It was kind of an emotional day. It was weird. I’m glad we got the first day over with.”"

After all, Fowler is the Rockies’ all-time leader in games started in center field. He could cover some ground and had decent power and a good on-base percentage for a lead-off hitter.

But, don’t forget why the club traded him in the first place. Among other things, Fowler struck out quite a bit, and save one year where he hit .300, saw his averages in Denver in the mid-.260s for several seasons.

The Rockies may not be better with Charlie Blackmon starting every day in center field, though (I’ll have a more in-depth post on this during the week), so it’s tough to see Dex in Denver and not with the Rockies.

Best of luck this year with the Cubs, Dex.

Just don’t burn us with two triples again today.
