The Colorado Rockies’ slugging outfielder — who may have nearly gotten traded — was named National League Player of the Month for July.

Congratulations to Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on his National League Player of the Month award, announced on Monday, August 3 by Major League Baseball.

Gonzalez, who had a very slow start to the season, heated up big time in both June and July, and in the last month alone, the slugger hit 11 home runs, had 24 RBIs, and slugged .841 in the 31 days immediately preceding August.

That’s not too bad for a guy that we all questioned in April when he got off to a very slow start, and retained that slow start for a very long time. All of that was not to be, and CarGo came back to look like the Cargo with which we are all familiar after the smokin’ July.

He did it amidst trade rumors, too, as most people assumed he might get traded — especially after super star teammate Troy Tulowitzki was sent to Toronto a few days before the trade deadline.

For CarGo, the month of July included three multi-homer games — all within a four game span — which makes him the second player in the last 12 years (the Chicago White Sox’s Carlos Quentin) to do that. CarGo also became the first Rockies’ hitter since Vinny Castilla in 1995 to have back-to-back mult-home run games.

In addition to the Player of the Month honors, CarGo had already won Player of the Week in the National League for the week of July 20-26, right in the middle of his torrid multi-homer few days.

This is the first Player of the Month Award CarGo has won in his career.

"Gracias a los que me apoyaron! Jugador del mes en la LN"
