The Colorado Rockies welcome the Miami Marlins to Coors Field this weekend, and as we get started with the series, let’s link up what you need to know around the web.

More from Colorado Rockies News

After a series against the Los Angeles Dodgers that included a little bit of heartbreak, and a little bit of rain, the Colorado Rockies welcome the Miami Marlins to Denver for the only time this season. The Rox, of course, have yet to play the Marlins this year.

We’ll be running a series preview later today, and of course keep up with Rockies news and game recaps as they come up, but now let’s do a little link-love around the web on Rockies-, Marlins-, and NL West-related stories you should know about on this Thursday morning:

The 2015 Colorado Rockies never stood a chance (Purple Row).

Eric, proving once again why he’s my favorite writer, drops truth on Rockies fans. Though I think most (normal) Rockies fans already knew this. That’s what’s so funny about mindless people like Woody Paige certain Rockies “commentators” who assume Rockies blogs are overwhelmingly positive.

…..What? Do you read us? (Of course you don’t.) In my wildest optimism, with everything going right, I predicted the Rockies were going to win 75 games this year, best-case scenario. Like… if you think that’s optimistic,

Woody

media “commentators,” then maybe you oughta…

Anyways, I digress. Eric is on point and just because a team has a bad year, it doesn’t mean that team doesn’t have a good plan, with a capable general manager. Fifty games doesn’t tell that story, but it is a decent sample size for Eric’s purposes.

Arenado learning from Tulowitzki how to be a ‘face of the franchise’ player (ESPN).

ESPN spending a couple minutes on the Rockies? ESPN spending a couple minutes on the Rockies! I don’t necessarily agree with everything Doug Glanville says in the accompanying TV spot (Arenado may average “15-20” home runs in his first couple seasons, but considering he’s already got a dozen this year, with ten away from Coors, I think he might hit a few more than that going forward.)

Steve Cishek optioned to AA (Marlin Maniac).

Keep this in mind as the Rockies get into the Marlins’ bullpen; Cishek had been their closer and was struggling before the option. We’ll ask the guys at Marlin Maniac more about this in our series preview, but it’s certainly something to keep an eye on this weekend.

The cloudy times on South Beach (Marlin Maniac).

If you don’t know much about the 2015 Fish, this is a great place to start — Redmond, Jennings, the (at the time of their writing) 20-31 record, etc., etc. The Marlins and Rockies are (kind of) similar in some ways, though Miami entered this season with much higher expectations than those in Colorado.
