Jordan Lyles may soon see the disabled list, and reliever Ken Roberts already has, making the Colorado Rockies the latest big league team dealing with nagging injury issues.

The Colorado Rockies announced this weekend that reliever Ken Roberts was going to be placed on the disabled list with left elbow inflammation, after joining the team two weeks ago and making his Major League debut.

In Roberts’ place on the mound, Brooks Brown returned to the bullpen after being activated from the disabled list having recovered from right shoulder inflammation.

Now, Jordan Lyles is hoping he doesn’t have to go on the disabled list, admitting he could miss at least his next start with a sprained toe after injuring himself this weekend against the San Francisco Giants.

Lyles spoke to MLB.com’s Dargan Southard:

"“I just overextended my big toe, and something popped. Hopefully, I can be out there next start. I’m going to try my best like I did with my hand. When I’m out there, I’m going to say what I need to say so I can stay out there. It was still early in the game. Got to get my innings.”"

Of course, Lyles’ right hand blew up after being hit with a line drive by Albert Pujols in a start last week in Anaheim. He overcame that to stay healthy and in the rotation, but another nagging injury – especially one that negatively affects his performance, as the toe did on Sunday – would bounce him in favor of rest and recovery.

Tyler Chatwood, Adam Ottavino, Corey Dickerson, Justin Morneau, LaTroy Hawkins and Charlie Culberson are all already on the disabled list, too, all with varying dates of return based on various injuries.

Every team goes through injuries every season, and some teams far worse than others. None of this is particularly unexpected, but for a team that lacks quality depth like the Rockies do – especially on the mound – a few more trips to the disabled list will push an already-struggling staff over the edge and could put the club completely out of reach by early June.
