ARLINGTON- Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black provided injury updates to the media, including Rox Pile, on pitchers Jon Gray, Jordan Sheffield, Peter Lambert, and Ryan Rolison prior to Tuesday’s game against the Rockies game against the Texas Rangers.

Jon Gray (forearm tightness) threw in a side session at about 3:30 PM C.T. and Black reported that Gray’s side session was “very good.” The team is “encouraged” and “optimistic” that Gray will make his scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves.

Colorado Rockies reliever Jordan Sheffield had a bad outing for High-A Spokane

Colorado Rockies reliever Jordan Sheffield (strained lat) last pitched on Sunday for High-A Spokane. Previously, he was with the Rockies Arizona League affiliate. In his first outing with Spokane, he only went two-thirds of an inning and he allowed three hits, four runs (all earned), two homers, and a walk.

However, Black said that Sheffield is “healthy” and his “stuff is fine” and his “velocity is normal.” He will be back with the Rockies major league team “at some point” this season.

Peter Lambert (Tommy John surgery) is slated to pitch tonight for High-A Spokane at home. Right now, Bud Black said that the Rockies are not necessarily worried about his results at this point (which have not been great) but more worried about instilling “confidence” in Lambert that he is not injured and doesn’t have to pitch as such.

For Ryan Rolison, Black said that they are more concerned about the “sheer performance” for him. Since returning from appendicitis, he has had an ERA of 6.61 in four starts. He will make his next start for Albuquerque tomorrow.
