The Colorado Rockies have 50 games remaining in the 2021 regular season and they will be crucial for the Rockies going forward.

In this episode of the Rox Pile Rockies Report, we discuss why that is the case for the Colorado Rockies, as these next 50 games could determine what roster the Rockies go with in 2022 and beyond.

One of those players that could factor into the 2022 roster is first baseman C.J. Cron. Cron, 31, is currently on a terror at the plate as in the Rockies most recent series with the Miami Marlins, he went 6-for-10 with eight runs, four home runs, 13 RBI, and a slash line of .600/.692/1.900.

Overall, he has played very well in the five weeks or so as since July 2 (27 games), Cron is hitting .276/.407/.575 with seven homers and 28 RBI.

More from Rox Pile

C.J. Cron could be playing his way onto the Colorado Rockies roster for 2022.

His play at the plate (120 OPS+), his defensive play (3 Defensive Runs Saved), his leadership, and his likely cheap contract could very well mean that the Rockies will re-sign him this offseason to keep him at first base for 2022.

The play of some other key players, like Garrett Hampson and Sam Hilliard, could determine whether or not they are with the Rockies in 2022.

Hampson has struggled mightily at the plate recently as, since July 3, he is hitting .165/.224/.190. The Rockies love him for his speed and versatility but if he continues at that pace for the rest of the year, will he be on the Rockies roster in 2022?

Since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque, Sam Hilliard is hitting .304/.381/.696 in 20 games but before he was sent back to Albuquerque in May, Hilliard was hitting .108/.154/.324. Which Sam Hilliard will the Rockies see for the rest of the season?

Next. The one are where the "boycott" is obvious. dark

We also recap the Rockies sweep of the Marlins and also give a preview of the series with the San Francisco Giants.
