The Colorado Rockies are on the clock to make some of the most important moves in their franchise history and the clock runs out in less than two weeks at the July 30 trade deadline and the New York Mets may have skyrocketed to the top of the Rockies list.

According to interim GM Bill Schmidt, the Rockies have not received many quality offers for players like Jon Gray or Trevor Story but the Rockies should be on the phone with the New York Mets right now. Why?

The New York Mets placed Francisco Lindor on the IL, potentially making them suitors for Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story.

The Mets star shortstop, Francisco Lindor, was just placed on the 10-day injured list. As of this publication, we don’t know the severity of the injury but considering the recovery time for oblique strains, Lindor could be out of game action for one to months if it is more severe.

As a result, Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story could find himself in Queens. In his short tenure as the Mets owner, Steve Cohen, has been known to have plenty of money and he’s willing to spend it on his team (e.g. trading for Lindor and already extending him to a monster 10-year, $341 million deal).

That style is part of the reason why the Mets have been in first place since Opening Day and enter play on Saturday with a 47-41 record and a three-game lead on the second-place Philadelphia Phillies.

The Mets could use Trevor Story at shortstop while Francisco Lindor is on the injured list but after Lindor returns (assuming he returns in 2021), the Mets could use Story at third or second base, both of which have been weak spots for them at the plate.

Next. The Rockies are about to make the most Rockies move of all. dark

Story has experience playing both positions in the minor leagues and other teams, like the Chicago White Sox, have shown an interest in Story playing second or third base.

The Rockies need to find a good trade partner for Trevor Story, Jon Gray, C.J. Cron, Mychal Givens, and should consider trading others, like Germán Márquez, as well but trading Story to the Mets could be a great way to replenish the farm system and get top dollar for Story.
