Major League Baseball unveiled the jerseys for this year’s Midsummer Classic at Coors Field and just like the season for the hosting team (the Colorado Rockies), they were … disappointing to say the least.

Typically, some colors and other design aspects referencing the hosting team are incorporated into the All-Star Game jerseys. We saw this with the ASG logo for 2021 as the color purple and the mountain design were worked into the star design.

Unfortunately, MLB failed to follow up the logo reveal with an equally appealing jersey reveal. Instead, the jerseys are being called the worst baseball jerseys ever created. Aside from a purple star hiding behind the logo on each team’s cap, there are no nods to the Colorado Rockies.

Not only are the colors disappointing, but the jersey itself is just plain weird.

From the red and navy color scheme to the unusual stacked letters and unexplained flowers on the sleeves, these uniforms are a major swing and a miss. Especially considering just how great these jerseys could have been if they better incorporated classic Rockies uniform elements. But instead, Rockies fans will have to settle for a purple star on the caps and nothing more.

To make matters worse, for the first time in history these polo-esque jerseys will be worn during the actual game according to Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.Net, ending the tradition of seeing several different teams’ uniforms on the field at the same time. Instead, players will now wear their team’s uniform during the Home Run Derby when the ASG jerseys have historically gotten their only use.

This debacle is just the latest in a string of failures for MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, who many accuse of being out of touch with the sport’s fanbase.
