The Colorado Rockies announced half an hour before the first pitch in their doubleheader with the Pittsburgh Pirates that they have placed Trevor Story (right elbow inflammation) on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Friday.

In a corresponding move, the Rockies have activated first baseman/outfielder Matt Adams (shin contusion) off the 10-day injured list.

As Rox Pile’s Kevin Henry discussed in this article this morning, the Rockies were hoping to avoid an IL stint with Story but Bud Black said that while they were hoping to see him this weekend, they would likely be erring on the side of caution, which they obviously have.

Originally, the injury was described as “arm tightness” but Story does have a bit of an injury history with it.

More from Rox Pile

We will have to see if this becomes a lingering issue for Story. If so, we will continue to see more of Brendan Rodgers playing shortstop (and therefore, Ryan McMahon playing second base and Joshua Fuentes playing third base). All three of them are playing those respective positions in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday.

The Rockies also have to consider the ramifications if this does linger and even if it doesn’t, will it hurt his trade value. That’s why we made the case he should be traded sooner rather than later. Time will also be a big factor in his trade value.

As for Adams, we mentioned on Friday night that he may be activated this weekend but without Story’s injury, he could have been in jeopardy of losing his roster spot as he has struggled in the major leagues and didn’t see any results in his rehab appearances in Triple-A Albuquerque.

Next. The one team Story shouldn't be traded to. dark

However, that question will be put to rest for the time being due to Story’s injury.

Stay tuned to the site and our Twitter page as we will have updates as they come.
