J.J. Cooper of Baseball America recently had an update on the minor league season for the 2021 season that will impact how the Colorado Rockies and other teams run Spring Training.

J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reported on Tuesday that MLB informed minor league teams that the 2021 season for Double-A and Single-A teams will be delayed. It will be delayed because MLB players and Triple-A players will be in Spring Training as scheduled.

To limit the number of people in Spring Training, the Double-A, and Single-A players will come in for Spring Training after MLB and Triple-A players leave.

While at first glance, you might think that the season being delayed would shorten the season for the Colorado Rockies lower minor league teams in Hartford, Connecticut, Spokane, Washington, and Fresno, California, Cooper clarified this on Twitter by saying that season will likely go until early October, instead of ending on Labor Day in September, as per usual.

The Triple-A season, presumably, will end early so that some of their players (and coaches) and be part of the September call-ups for the MLB teams.

While everyone would like for the season to start on time for the minor leagues, at least they will get a full season, as of now. The minor league teams did not get any games in 2020 due to the pandemic and as a result of MLB paring down the number of teams, MiLB has been decimated financially so a full-slate of games would be a much-needed boost for franchises.

Fans will likely not be allowed to attend games during Spring Training or at the beginning of the season but hopefully, fans will be able to attend games during the summer and the playoffs. However, as we have all seen in the last year, a lot of things are fluid so, perhaps, this fluid thing could be earlier than expected, rather than later.
