With rosters decreasing from 30 players to 28 on Thursday, the Colorado Rockies have optioned Josh Fuentes and Ashton Goudeau.

The Colorado Rockies have announced that they have optioned infielder Josh Fuentes and right-handed pitcher Ashton Goudeau to their alternate training site prior to the team’s day game against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field.

The Rockies and the other 29 MLB teams are having their rosters trimmed from 30 players to 28 prior to playing on Thursday. Originally, 2020 rosters were going to expand from 25 to 26 players but as a result of the fallout from COVID-19, rosters were expanded to 30 players and then supposed to drop to 28 players after 2 weeks and to 26 players later in the season.

However, now, the 28-man roster will remain for the rest of the regular season and for the entirety of the postseason. The taxi squad will expand from three players to five players but it remains to be seen if Fuentes and Goudeau will be the two players added.

Neither Fuentes nor Goudeau have made their 2020 debut yet. Goudeau has yet to make his MLB debut, in general, as this was the first time he was ever on an MLB roster.

Yesterday, we mentioned both Fuentes and Goudeau as possible players that could be optioned.

For Thursday, the Rockies will look to win the series against the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field to keep their series winning streak alive as they have won each series they have played this year. In the event that they lose, they would still have a split for the four-game series.

In the series finale, the Rockies will field a bit of a different lineup than their usual.

  1. David Dahl, CF
  2. Trevor Story, DH
  3. Charlie Blackmon, RF
  4. Nolan Arenado, 3B
  5. Matt Kemp. LF
  6. Ryan McMahon, 1B
  7. Garrett Hampson, 2B
  8. Chris Owings, SS
  9. Drew Butera, C

The Rockies bench will be comprised of Tony Wolters, Elias Diaz, Daniel Murphy, Raimel Tapia, and Sam Hilliard. The Rockies will also turn to Kyle Freeland for the start as well.

Rox Pile’s Kevin Henry will be at Coors Field with the reaction for the roster cuts and the different look Rockies so be sure to check out our Twitter page @RoxPileFS for it.
