The finalists for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award were announced this afternoon and the Colorado Rockies had two finalists named.

The Colorado Rockies were well represented in the announcement of the finalists for the Rawlings Gold Glove Awards this afternoon as three of their players were named finalists.

Third baseman Nolan Arenado and shortstop Trevor Story were named as one of three finalists for each of their respective positions in the National League.

Along with Arenado, the finalists at third base were Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon and Braves third baseman Josh Donaldson. For shortstops, the other NL finalists along with Story were Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong and DBacks shortstop Nick Ahmed.

According to Fangraphs, Arenado, 28, was in a four-way tie for second place in the NL with 8 Defensive Runs Saved, along with the Dbacks’ Eduardo Escobar, the Marlins’ Brian Anderson, and the Phillies’ Scott Kingery. The Braves’ Josh Donaldson was first among NL third baseman with 15 DRS.

By UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating), though, Arenado was the clear winner as his 10.3 UZR was more than double of the next highest NL third baseman, which was Kingery’s 4.5 UZR.

For Story at shortstop, he was second among NL shortstops in DRS, according to Fangraphs, with 17. The only shortstop who was higher was the Dbacks’ Nick Ahmed, who had 18 DRS in 123 2/3 more innings played at shortstop than Story. The Cubs shortstop Javier Baez, Paul DeJong of the Cardinals, and Miguel Rojas of the Marlins all had double digit DRS among NL shortstops. With UZR, the leaders are DeJong (11.7), Baez (10.0), and Story (8.6).

If Arenado were to win the NL Gold Glove, it would be his 7th straight Gold Glove, meaning he would have won the award in every season that he appeared in the major leagues.

For Story, it is his first nomination in his MLB career. In 2017, he was third among NL shortstops with 11 DRS (according to Fangraphs) but his 1.7 UZR was 6th among NL shortstops with over 750 innings played at the positions.
